Outstanding Youth Leadership

Kelli Davis

Cordova High School has many outstanding students, but few can hold a candle to the accomplishments of Kelli Davis, Class of 2009.

Cordova High School has many outstanding students, but few can hold a candle to the accomplishments of Kelli Davis, Class of 2009.

Kelli has held virtually every important leadership role that can be held by a student at Cordova High. But like a true leader, Kelli's accomplishments and activities reach out in many directions.

As a leader:
  • Kelli began as a class representative in her sophomore year. She progressed to the position of Student Body President in her junior year - a job that usually goes to a senior.
  • She also applied for and was awarded the student seat on the Folsom Cordova Unified School District Board of Trustees, also a job normally reserved for a senior.
  • Then, just to make history, she ran for a second term and won the job again this year - the first time a student has ever held the seat for two years in a row.
  • Kelli said she believes her biggest contribution on the school board has been taking seriously her leadership responsibilities in her student government role.
  • She put it this way: "I created a vision of the students facilitating the meetings instead of relying on an adult advisor. I took the opportunity to practice leadership by creating the agenda and conducting the meetings, thus demonstrating that the meetings are run by the students and for the students."
As a student scholar:
  • Kelli has been a member of the California Scholarship Federation (CSF) for four years.
  • She said her favorite class is Student Government, and her favorite subject is Chemistry. She believes English is probably her strongest subject.
  • And yes, you guessed it, she is currently ranked number ONE in her senior class, putting her on a path to be named Valedictorian.
As a volunteer:
  • She has helped landscape homes for poor families with Habitat for Humanity.
  • She helped package Thanksgiving meals for families at the Cordova Food Locker.
  • She helped assemble bicycles being given to needy children.
  • She participated in stuffing holiday gift bags for orphans at St. Patrick?s Home for Children and has volunteered at the Mustard Seed School.
  • And more
Her future:
  • Kelli has been accepted to Brigham Young University, and will begin school there this summer.
  • Her career goals are to study medicine and become an oncology doctor.
Her government teacher Josh Creeger told us this about Kelli:

"I passionately believe Kelli Davis is one of a kind. There is more to her than amazing grades and a stellar list of accomplishments. She has an inner compassion and beauty that so many kids lose or neglect while running the rat race. Kelli has a true desire to be fair to all and make the world a better place. She has a level of integrity and honesty that is truly genuine and needed in today's world."

Kelli Davis, Cordova High School has produced many fine leaders and you join that elite group of the best among the best. We are so proud to call you our own, though we certainly expect will we someday share you with the world. Congratulations!
